Excellent Flavors

TASTE IS PERSONAL

We agree that you can argue about taste, but here at Hesselink Koffie we strive for a unique taste profile. For the real Hesselink Koffie taste. Our coffee, our palate, is recognisable by its full-bodied, round, sweet flavour from which the tones of various nuts, such as hazelnut, emerge. We love to explain what happens in the process. Coffee procurement is the basis of the quality which we supply. Every harvest can taste different to the previous batch, but flavour and quality are optimal at all times. That’s why every batch is tested meticulously. Our blenders adapt the blend if necessary, in order to continually guarantee the quality and optimal flavour.

OUR BLENDS

At Hesselink Koffie, we are always looking for the best flavour profiles. As a consequence, the blends are perfected again and again, as much as possible. This results in us offering blends for every occasion. We strive for a unique flavour profile, for the real Hesselink Koffie flavour. You can read how we do that below.

THE STEPS OF OUR PROCUREMENT PROCESS

After the coffee is procured, we receive a sample of the green coffee from our suppliers. With that, the testing process commences. Only when we are certain that the coffee tastes good and is of the desired quality, do we process it in our blends. We leave nothing to chance. See the steps we go through in the process below.

ASSESSING THE GREEN, UNROASTED COFFEE BEANS

The process starts with assessing the green bean. The colour and scent of the bean speak volumes about its quality, as does the shape. Our blenders examine whether the beans are uniform and have a fresh colour. They also check whether the beans are of a similar size. Furthermore, the scent says a lot about the quality. Do the beans have a green, fresh scent? Then they'll make it through the selection.

ROASTING IN THE SAMPLE ROASTER

When the beans have made it through the first selection, we assess how the beans react to temperature, and how they develop. During this step we monitor whether the beans get a nice and even brown colour, and whether they grow uniformly. Aroma also plays a big part during this step of the process. That's why we test whether pleasant aromas are released during the test roasting.

CUPPING THE COFFEE

The freshly roasted coffee is tested for flavour. The first coffee is made and tasted. This process is called cupping. It's the last step before the coffee will be transported. If the results are positive, the batch is called up. During this step, we also check whether pleasant aromas are released during the grinding and making of the coffee. Even when the coffee is made, it is important that it has the right aroma. As a last step, we check whether the coffee tastes as you would expect it to from Hesselink Koffie. Only if all these steps are completed positively, will the coffee be approved.

TRANSPORT AND DELIVERY

Now that the coffee is approved, it is transported from the port to the roastery via the importer. Before the beans arrive in Winterswijk, they are tested in Zeebrugge. For the procurement of our beans, we have chosen to work with EFICO Seabridge. They also hold sustainability in high regard, and operate from a sustainable building in Zeebrugge. We have opted to have our coffee delivered once a month. By delivering larger batches to the customer, the delivery trucks spend less time on the road, greatly reducing CO2 emissions.

THE BLENDS

The abovementioned process results in a beautiful coffee. Whether you like very strong or mild coffee. We know exactly the right formula to achieve the real Hesselink Koffie blend. Over the years, we have perfected our blends in our own coffee roastery, day in day out. This means we have blends for every occasion. We agree that you can argue about taste, but here at Hesselink Koffie we strive for a unique taste profile. For the real Hesselink Koffie taste. Our coffee, our palate is recognisable by its full-bodied, round, sweet flavour from which the tones of various nuts, such as hazelnut, emerge. Our blends are made with care.

TIP: DISCOVER OUR SPECIALITIES

So the specialities are included our range. We offer different types of special coffee for the hospitality industry, such as Single Origins. That coffee is made with beans from one specific region. Only the best beans from that region are selected and used for various blends. Of course, our Single Origins coffees are roasted using the easy roast method, and are vacuum packed to preserve the aromas.
